121 Dog Training

  • I work in person around South Manchester, but offer zoom sessions to anyone in or out of this area. My training aims to help people work on their dog's behaviour out of the house, i.e on walks or generally in public.

I’m perfect for you if you:

    • Have a dog that doesn't listen to you outside the house

    • Cannot let your dog off the lead (due to a lack of recall or lack of confidence)

    • Have a dog that pulls on the lead

    • Currently walk your dog mainly on a short lead

    • Want to broaden your horizons with your dog and take them to new places

I may not be the right fit for you if your dog is currently:

    • Struggling with behaviours around another dog in your home

    • Resource Guarding

    • Reacting to things on walks by barking or lunging

    • Displaying separation anxiety

If your dog is struggling with these it is best to get in touch with a qualified dog behaviourist. However feel free to get in touch and lets chat, if I cannot help I can point you in the direction of a suitable positive reinforcement trainer or behaviourist who can!

  • I offer home skill building sessions to practice helpful training activities that will form the foundation of training needed for walks. These are a great opportunity for you to practice and gain confidence so you know what to do when faced with a real life situation.

I also offer outdoor training and coaching on walks in a suitable local green space, where I will guide you on handling and communicating with your dog to make you feel confident and to make your walks look how you want them to be.

My dog Ernie is a trained stooge dog who may join our sessions to help you to practice around dog distractions.

  • I use kind and ethical methods of positive reinforcement and management to make sure your learning and your dog's learning is fun and enjoyable, and also to protect your dog's welfare during the learning process.

There is no use of slip leads, prong or e-collars or other aversive tools. If you currently use these tools don't worry, we can have a chat about the pros and cons and work to find a way to help you handle your dog using kinder methods.

  • Home visits last up to 1.5hrs. There are fewer distractions in the home which allows for more varied learning, going through a range of techniques and activities that will help.

Outdoor sessions last up to 1hr. Each dog is different and feels different day to day. I will always observe and assess your dog to make sure they are happy and handling the experience. Sessions may be cut short if needed.

  • Home visits cost £89

    Outdoor sessions cost £69

Virtual Training Support

  • This service is aimed to help people who either do not have the funds for the 121 service, or who only need ad-hoc advice and support with their dog.

It is a ‘trainer-in-your-pocket’ type service where you can have access to a qualified dog trainer who you can trust to give safe, well-informed and thoroughly explained answers to your questions and give helpful feedback on training videos you supply.

  • You can message Jess with questions and videos for her to review, assess and respond to. Jess will respond with messages, voice notes or videos of her own in order to help you.

There are two levels of support:

Level 1 - messages and voice notes only. With this level you can send texts/whatsapps or voice notes with questions and Jess will respond with her feedback and advice to help you.

Level 2 - as above plus video feedback. With this level you can also send videos of your training or of your dog’s behaviour and Jess will provide notes and feedback to help you understand what is going on and what you can do to improve things based on the advice you are seeking. Jess will also send videos to demonstrate things where needed.

  • Level 1 - Questions and advice (you send texts or voice notes)

    £10 per week.

Level 2 - As above plus ability to gain feedback on videos of your training.

    £25 per week

Charges start from the date of your first message. You will be invoiced at the end of the month for the services you used.

Puppy Socialisation Sessions

  • These sessions are for new puppy owners (puppies of 3-6months) that want to gain confidence with recall and socialising their puppy safely around other dogs.

  • You will meet Jess and her dog Ernie and go for a walk together. Jess will talk you through the body language so you can understand what the dogs are saying to one another, when to step in and when to let the dogs interact. You'll gain experience of handling your pup around other dogs so that you can confidently provide them with socialisation experiences.

    Jess will help you with:

    • Dog-dog greetings

    • Approaching dogs

    • Parallel walking and pass-by's

    • reading the body language to assess the suitability of a greeting.

    • engagement and recall around dogs.

  • We will use harnesses and leads for these sessions as these will ensure your puppy's comfort and ability to communicate effectively.

  • Socialisation sessions typically last 45mins depending on the needs of the dogs.

  • Puppy Sessions cost £39

Solo Training Walks

  • All dogs can benefit from our dog walks. We spend time getting to know what your goals are, and to learn their personality and needs so we can tailor our sessions to each individual.

These walks are great if you want help taking the pressure off, Jess will provide your dog with enrichment and stimulation whilst you take care of yourself and other important things.

They're also a great option if you're ready to get serious about your training and you want an expert to help keep up the consistency. Jess can get to know your dog really well so your training plan is the most tailored it can be, and then she'll show you how to train them too! Our video feedback and virtual coaching really helps people to understand what to do, and how and when to do it.

  • Our dog walks aim to provide enriching experiences and socialisation opportunities that are tailored to your individual dog.

Having a dog trainer walk your dog ensures they get the personalised care they deserve. Jess can assess your dog day to day to create the best session for them to boost their mood, their learning and their satisfaction whilst they wait for you to come home!

WalkWise walks look a little like this:

    • Gentle beginning to the session for relationship building and assessment of their needs and mood that day

    • Physical exercise appropriate for their age and health status, in a local green space.

    • Home based training and play if the dog prefers - still providing physical exercise.

    • Dog-led walks that tap into their breed specific needs.

    • Rewards based training games

    • Consistency in loose lead training

    • Where appropriate, exposure and training around triggers or other distractions using positive reinforcement.

    • Settle time before being left

  • Jess' preferred equipment for walks is a harness and lead in order to provide long line walks safely.

If you currently use a head halter, prong or slip lead Jess will devote her time to teaching your dog how to walk and become socialised to the outdoors without these tools. This may mean more home based training at the beginning.

  • Jess will spend around 1.5hrs with your dog.

  • Solo dog walks are £45.

Rachael + Boyd

“We’ve worked alongside Jess for almost 2yrs now whilst she’s helped us navigate through the stages of puppyhood and adolescence with our Golden Retriever Boyd.
Jess has consistently been a light at the end of the tunnel when things have been tricky (and seemed unmanageable!) and worked so hard to help us and Boyd be the best team.”
